New Version of Office: Office 2007
Are you ready for the new Microsoft Office 2007?
During the summer Microsoft released a new version of Office, Microsoft Office 2007. A new version of Microsoft Office means new file formats and file extensions – it means that documents created with Office 2007 programs will not open directly on computers running Office 2003 – the version currently installed in all the faculty computers.
How should you prepare to handle this? Let's look at two possible alternatives:
Alternative one:
You could stay with Microsoft Office 2003 and install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
The pack will let you open and edit Office 2007 new file formats: .docx (Word 2007) .xlsx (Excel 2007) and .pptx (PowerPoint 2007).
It will also allow you to create 2007 versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files by using the Save As command.
Alternative two:
You could install the new Microsoft Office 2007 Suite.
With Microsoft Office 2007 installed, you will be able to open any document created in the any older version.
You can sign out the installation CD/DVD at the Information Desk in the library.
*Note that all the computer labs on campus have already been upgraded to MS Office 2007.
Office 2007 has a definite new look and it may make you a little dizzy the first time you use the new interface. If your dizziness doesn’t dissipate, just call your educational technologist for help! Karin Camihort, #3700. |
